Our studio engineers
Phil and Brooke have many years of experience creating and capturing sound. When you are ready to create, they are ready to help. Read about their experience below.
Phil Young Head Audio Engineer
Phil leverages a wealth of knowledge from years in the industry working with some of music’s biggest names. He kicked his career off in the LA music scene at the prestigious NightBird Recording Studios working with world-renowned acts such as Drake, Lil’ Wayne, Carrie Underwood, John Oates and Green Day.
Phil eventually came back home to lend his talents to the industry here. His efforts earned him recognition with a Dedication to Developing the Des Moines Music Industry award from the Des Moines Music Coalition. He truly enjoys refining every video and music project to create immersive audio experiences.
Phil has played in a lot of bands over the years and enjoys making music with his friends. His bands have taken the stage at 80/35, Mission Creek and many other music festivals across the state. Phil’s passion for creating synchronized visual art for live music was rewarded with a grant from the Iowa Arts Council to support his work.
When Phil has a free minute or two, he loves tracking down, modifying or rebuilding analog audio and video equipment. Whether it's building preamps or modifying vintage guitar amps, they always work their way into improving or capturing a great sound during a session.
With Phil you can expect a harmonious balance between his meticulous attention to detail and his creative passion working with analog and digital techniques to capture all the possibilities available with your sound. Look to partner with Phil on your next project.
Brooke Schaffner Senior Audio Engineer
Brooke loves to create sonic landscapes that complete what the story is looking to tell and take viewers to new places. With nearly two decades of experience in sound design and mixing audio for film, television, commercial, podcast and digital content, Brooke is a skilled engineer who can bring any story to life. She has logged hundreds of hours for over 10 different networks including Syfy, Magnolia, VH1, HGTV, Food Network, Weather Channel, WGN, Travel Channel, Discovery, Reelz and TLC.
Brooke’s attention to detail crafting all the sounds you should hear in a story makes them fit so well that you don’t realize those sounds are there. It just sounds right. Without that detail, some scenes can feel off and change the listeners overall experience with the content. Don’t be surprised if you bump into to her while traveling with a field recorder. You never know where one might capture that next great sound for the effects library.
Brooke’s experience includes work as a recording engineer, sound designer, dialogue editor, foley, podcast editor and documentary film editor. Look to partner with Brooke on your next project.
